I’m straight slangin’ videos, homies. While this isn’t technically the “first” video I have ever made; it is the first actual video I have ‘made.’ Does that make sense? Nah, doesn’t to me either…
Especially since the more discerning of you will notice there isn’t any actual film or pictures in this particular video–the first in a series of all my songs to be set to lyrics and using semi-in-movement words.
Forgive me, I went into the nether realm and was distracted by Cthulhu; dude owes me six bucks. The problem with Cthul-dawg is that every time I ask for money, he speaks in the language of the Old Ones and I’m driven mad. I wake up in the desert without any… You know what? It’s not important.
So what I mean by “first” and ‘made’ goes something like this:
I have made videos before. The FREE ALBUM video, the Steve Winwood contest cover video, the incredibly infamous Phoebe Manifesto video and I think maybe another one or two. The “Free Album” vid I made by myself; but that was really only lining up the tape and pressing record–and putting a title or two in the frames. I still didn’t do a very good job, but shut up.
So anyway, I find myself slightly proud of this video. It took me awhile, I like the flow (albeit, I understand there’s very simple “art” to it) and I did really try to do a good job.
I understand that many of you will say, “Meh, I could’ve done better in far less time with half the computer, twice as sober!” You would be correct on most of these accounts. I was actually completely sober while working on this.
The discerning viewer should note the following:
1. Piss off.
2. I am not a director, film editor, movie maker guy, good with computers, patient, rich enough to pay someone to do it or inclined to list any more reasons why you should probably see point #1 if these reasons are not good enough.
3. Yes, I am teasing you; unless you’re SERIOUSLY giving me grief, then see point #1.
4. I don’t like lists of 3′s
5. I am making the blog look longer.
6. Okay, okay I’ll stop.
This, while the first of the videos I will be making for every track off the album that will be named “album cuts with lyrics,” is not the first video I made to begin this project. Nope. I started with “Walk Away.” I used the album cover art and tried some rolling script and all that jazz. It came out like your high school’s “news” videos the journalism club made.
That’s right, it freaking rocked your face!!!
It was so damn cool, Vicki was like “Jas, this is… Well, Jas, you god-like man of steel with the awesome power of song, it is simply TOO great… My darling, warrior-king, you must take pity on the mortals who will view this masterpiece… You must, oh great and beautiful, talented, omnipotent and all-knowing hero of my dreams, make something a little more accessible to the casual viewer.”
As I listened to my very wise and understating wife, I realized there was a sage-like wisdom to her praise and chances were she may or may not have had a point on the video. So I shelved my first endeavor and made another video. I chose “Grey.”
So here it is:

All joking aside, I wanted to make simple videos–because while Vicki may think I’m a god among hamsters (not you, I mean like if I was standing in a pen with a bunch of hamsters)–with just the lyrics and the music; because, at the end of the day, I’m just a musician that wants to leave behind some sounds that, hopefully, people will enjoy.
With that, I say good evening and I hope you enjoy my song “Grey.”
If you do, remember: You can have the entire album for free:

Now go in peace, internet-highlander… And unless you want some singer-songwriter whoop-ass upside your head, you had best go and tell some o’ yo’ peeps bout this here blog/video/song/album.
Vicki is not as forgiving as I am…
