What is it about sounds that I dig so much? On this album (Working on My Soul) I used:
Hand percussion—djembe, Tabla, congas, bongos, etc
6 string banjo
Electric sitar
Loads of organs/synths—harpsichord, moogs, prophets, etc
Mallets
Symphonic instruments (real and soft)
So on and so forth…
So gangsta... It's going on the next album.
I swear if I had access to other instruments I would have tried them all. I’ll always be in search of sounds.
Hell, I used the front porch as an instrument in “Front-Y-ard-Stomp”—it had a great boom-y resonance I always loved.
Maybe it was all those years listening to the Beatles, eh? Who knows?
I just dig combining sounds in a way that moves me. Maybe one day I’ll make a power trio album like Cream or Jimi Hendrix and that’ll seem “exotic” to me.
